Team Works! - Mecosta and
Osceola Counties
Environmental Clean Up Projects
Over 100 volunteers participated in
cleaning up three dump sites within the Muskegon River Watershed in
May, June and September 2008. The sites were in Mecosta and Osceola
Counties. These sites were identified as having a high potential
risk for ground and surface water contamination.
140 cubic yards of
household and farm refuge including over 160 tires and several
hundred pounds of scrap metal were removed for proper disposal and
recycling.
Participants
included members from the Big Rapids Trinity Evangelical Free
Church, Big Rapids High School Wrestling Team, The Big Rapids
Gardening Club, The Muskegon River Watershed Assembly and the
Mecosta and Osceola-Lake Conservation Districts.
The clean up events
were made possible thanks to support from the Fremont Area Community
Foundation, the Ice Mountain Environmental Stewardship Fund and area
businesses. The events were coordinated by The Environmental
Stewardship Organization also known as “Team Works!”, a local
non-profit organization.
“Do Something Good!” is a Team Works! slogan.
With more clean-ups planned for 2009, it looks like that slogan has
become a reality.
