MTU Four Wheelers [Houghton County]
These are pictures of the trail being cleaned up October 19, 2002, between Painesdale and South Range
(nearly 3 miles long). This trail is both a snowmobile and ORV trail.
Two 12-yard dump trucks were stationed at the
ball field in South Range. Pickup trucks and flat bed trailers
transported the debris from the side of the trail to the waiting
dump trucks. Two jeeps with winches were utilized to haul the
refrigerators, electric ranges, snowmobiles, and other large items
up the steep embankments to the waiting pickup trucks.
Seven tons of trash and old appliances were
collected and transported to the Houghton County Transfer Station.
As a community relations gesture, MTU paid the tipping fees! This coming spring the MTU 4 wheelers will be
cleaning up between South Range and Houghton. The MTU Four
Wheelers have been cleaning up various trails for many years and
began sending reports to the Adopt-a-Forest program in 1999.
They plan on participating in the program for years to come. If you would
