Huron Pines AmeriCorps Environmental Coordinator Dan Schultz has
been working all summer to organize community volunteers to clean
illegal dumpsites in Roscommon and Crawford Counties. Here's a
sneak peek at what they've been up to...
June 24, 2009:
We had 7 students (ages
10-14), 3 adult volunteers (including Chris with HPA: THANKS CHRIS!)
and a filming crew from the Kellogg Foundation. The day started hot
and sticky, and kept getting hotter and stickier as we went. Even
though we worked up a monster sweat, we still removed 3 box spring
mattresses, 2 large piles of shingles, 3 or 4 large trash bags of
garbage, and several tires. We called it a day when the heat just
got to be too much....but I think the kids were awesome and we
couldn't have done anything without them and the adult
volunteers....
